Two Moons

by Richard Haxton

When I woke up this morning there were two moons in the sky
I turned on my TV, they say the planet’s gonna die
The weather has gone crazy, fire and ice and drought
And the tide cannot decide if it’s in or out

They say the worst thing possible has come to our door
But for me it’s so much more – it’s rhyme and metaphor

Junes — naw
Gershwin tunes — ha ha ha
They swoon at the moons — maybe in Utah
Our sensibilities have gone the way of the spittoons How do you write an honest smash mega-musical comedy that’s honest
when there are two moons?
